FOOD, FOOD, FOOD! SURPRISINGLY, THIS IS A TOPIC THAT COMES UP IN MANY CONVERSATIONS I HAVE WITH Y'ALL. WHAT DO I EAT IN A DAY? WHAT IS MY DAILY EATING SCHEDULE? DO I DIET? WHAT FOODS DO I LIKE & DISLIKE? DO I DRINK?, AND THE QUESTIONS CONTINUE. THIS IS KIND OF ONE OF THOSE POSTS, WHERE I'M LIKE EH, DO I WRITE IT OR DO I NOT...

BUT, SINCE THE POST WAS HIGHLY REQUESTED, I FIGURED I'D GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT! BEFORE JUMPING IN, I DID WANT TO DO A LITTLE FYI TO TOUCH ON A FEW THINGS:

1. I AM IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM A NUTRITIONIST, NOR HAVE I EVER MET WITH ONE ABOUT WHAT I SHOULD OR SHOULDN'T BE EATING. I HAVE NO FORMAL EDUCATION ON THE SUBJECT, BUT IF I EVER GET SOME, I'LL LET Y'ALL KNOW. 

2. I DO NOT EAT "HEALTHY" 24/7. TRUTHFULLY, I PROBABLY EAT HEALTHY 60% OF THE TIME, AND THE OTHER 40% IS ONE BIG REASON I WORKOUT! NO SHAME IN MY FOOD LOVING GAME!

3. THIS IS MY PERSONAL DAY TO DAY DIET. EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT! DIFFERENT BODY TYPES, DIFFERENT AGES, DIFFERENT LIFESTYLES, DIFFERENT METABOLISMS, WE. ARE. ALL. UNIQUE. SO, WHAT WORKS FOR ME, MAY NOT WORK FOR EVERYONE!

OKAYYY, NOW THAT ALL THAT'S OUT OF THE WAY, LET'S GET TO IT! HERE IS WHAT A TYPICAL DAY OF FOOD LOOKS LIKE FOR ME:

 

-- M O R N I N G -- 

"BREAKFAST IS THE MOST IMPORTANT MEAL OF THE DAY" WE'VE ALL HEARD IT, BUT DO YOU TRUST IT? -- PERSONALLY, I LOVE BREAKFAST FOOD, AND REALLY FEEL A DIFFERENCE IN MY ENERGY WHEN I START MY DAY OFF WITH AT LEAST A LITTLE SOMETHING! 

-- FIRST THINGS FIRST - I DON'T DRINK COFFEE ON A DAILY BASIS! CALL ME CRAZY, BUT I DON'T ENJOY IT AS AN EVERYDAY NECESSITY. IF YOU EVER SEE ME WITH A COFFEE, IT'S BECAUSE I WAS CRAVING THE FLAVOR OR I'M REALLY SUPER EXTRA TIRED!

-- A.M. DRINK - I DRINK A LARGE ICE WATER ON MY WAY INTO WORK EACH DAY!

-- A.M. FOOD - I NORMALLY HAVE 1 OF 4 THINGS:

  • FRUIT PARFAIT -- I MAKE THESE AT HOME AND TAKE THEM WITH ME TO WORK. ALL I USE IS 2 PARTS FRESH FRUIT, 1 PART GRANOLA (THIS IS MY CURRENT FAV), 2 PARTS VANILLA GREEK YOGURT. SUPER EASY! 
  • OATMEAL -- IF I'M DOING OATMEAL, I'M EATING THE GOOD OLE QUAKER INSTANT OATMEAL, (I PREFER THE MAPLE BROWN SUGAR OR THE FRUIT & CREAM FLAVORS) POSSIBLY WITH SOME ADDED FRUIT DEPENDING ON THE DAY!
  • CLIF BAR -- I LOVEEEE THESE! THEY'RE SUPER FILLING, AND THEY HAVE A TON OF GREAT FLAVORS. MY FAVORITES ARE COOL MINT CHOCOLATE, CRUNCHY PEANUT BUTTER, & PEANUT TOFFEE BUZZ!
  • EGG MUFFINS -- I MAKE THESE AT HOME, AND WHEN I DO, I NORMALLY MAKE ENOUGH TO LAST ME THROUGH THE WEEK. WHAT I PUT IN THEM VARIES, BUT FOR THE MOST PART IT'S A COMBINATION OF EGGS, VEGGIES (BROCCOLI, MUSHROOMS, ONIONS, TOMATOES - YES, I KNOW IT'S A FRUIT), CHEESE (GOAT CHEESE IS MY FAV), SALT & PEPPER. ***RECIPE TAB INCLUDING THIS RECIPE COMING SOON!***

-- OTHER BREAKFAST FOODS I LOVE - BLUEBERRY PANCAKES/WAFFLES, FRENCH TOAST, BACON, BISCUITS & GRAVY, CINNAMON ROLLS... I COULD SERIOUSLY GO ON FOR DAYS!

 

-- S N A C K S --

I AM A HUGE SNACKER!! 

-- I NORMALLY SNACK A FEW TIMES A DAY, BUT I DO WATCH MY PORTION SIZES. (TIP) - PACKAGING THINGS INTO INDIVIDUAL BAGGIES MAKES IT EASIER TO ONLY EAT WHAT'S IN THAT BAG VERSUS IF YOU WERE TO HAVE THE WHOLE BAG IN FRONT OF YOU.

-- HEALTHY SNACKS - 

  • PRETZEL THINS -- THESE EVERYTHING FLAVORED ONES ARE SO SO GOOD!
  • DRIED FRUIT -- APPLES & BANANAS ARE MY GO-TOS
  • YOGURT SQUEEZERS -- THESE AREN'T JUST FOR KIDS! THEY HELP ME WHEN I'M CRAVING SWEETS! I LIKE TO KEEP THEM IN THE FREEZER, SO THAT THEY'RE KIND OF LIKE ICE CREAM. THESE ARE ONE OF MY FAVS!
  • TRAIL MIX -- I LOVE THIS ONE! 

-- NOT SO HEALTHY SNACKS -

  • ALL THE DIPS -- WHEN I DIP, YOU DIP, WE DIP! YOU NAME IT, I PROBABLY LIKE IT. 
  • BARK THINS -- THESE AREN'T TERRIBLE FOR YOU, EXCEPT WHEN YOU'RE LIKE ME AND YOU CAN EAT A WHOLE BAG IN ONE SITTING... I LOVE THE DARK CHOCOLATE/PUMPKIN SEED FLAVOR!
  • CANDY -- THIS COULD POSSIBLY BE IT'S OWN FOOD GROUP TO ME, BUT I'LL LEAVE IT AT THIS... I LOVE CANDY! -- IT'S NOT A GOOD HABIT, BUT I DON'T REMEMBER THE LAST DAY I DIDN'T HAVE AT LEAST ONE PIECE OF CANDY.. SOUR PATCH KIDS, GUMMY BEARS, REESE'S, PEANUT M&M'S... SHOULD I CONTINUE??

  • ADULT LUNCHABLES -- I CALL THEM THAT, BECAUSE THAT'S KIND OF WHAT THEY ARE! I PACK IT MYSELF, BUT IT NORMALLY CONSISTS OF A VARIATION OF THE FOLLOWING --LUNCH MEAT, CHEESE, RAW VEGGIES & HUMMUS, LOW SODIUM DILL PICKLES, FRESH FRUIT, & CRACKERS.
  • TUNA SALAD W/ VEGGIES -- I BUY THESE AND MIX IN GREEK YOGURT OR LOW FAT MAYO, SALT/PEPPER, SUNFLOWER SEEDS, AND DRIED CRANBERRIES. I EAT IT WITH RAW VEGGIES, NORMALLY BROCCOLI, CARROTS, OR CELERY. 
  • SALAD -- PAT & I LOVE SALADS! WE PROBABLY GO THROUGH ABOUT 1-2 HEADS/BAGS OF LETTUCE A WEEK, SO WE ALWAYS HAVE STUFF TO MAKE GOOD SALADS. I CAN MAKE A PRETTY GOOD SALAD (RECIPES TAB COMING SOON!) IF I DO SAY SO MYSELF, BUT DURING THE WEEK, I'LL SOMETIMES BUY THESE SALAD PACKETS AND SWAP OUT THE DRESSING FOR MY OWN FAVORITE DRESSINGS DEPENDING ON MY MOOD. I WILL SOMETIMES ADD RAW VEGGIES OR GRILLED CHICKEN TO THEM TOO!

-- DINNER IS PRETTY UP IN THE AIR FOR US! IF YOU'VE BEEN FOLLOWING ME FOR A WHILE, THEN YOU KNOW WE DO HELLO FRESH 3 NIGHTS A WEEK MOST WEEKS. (I HAVE TONS OF "FIRST BOX FREE" CODES TO SHARE, SHOOT ME A DM ON INSTAGRAM OR LEAVE A COMMENT BELOW IF YOU'RE INTERESTED!) ASIDE FROM HELLO FRESH, I DO HAVE TONS OF RECIPES FOR DINNERS THAT PAT & I ENJOY. ***RECIPE TAB COMING SOON!***

-- P.M. FOODS -

  • MEAT & VEGGIES -- PAT IS A MEAT & POTATOES MAN, AND YES, I LOVE A GOOD STEAK DINNER, BUT AGAIN I DO WATCH MY PORTIONS. MOST OF THE TIME I MAKE MASHED OR ROASTED POTATOES FOR PAT AND VEGGIES FOR ME! HE'LL EAT THE VEGGIES TOO, BUT I TRY TO WATCH MY CARB INTAKE WHEN I CAN. OUR FAVORITE PROTEINS TO COOK ARE ROASTED CHICKEN & PORK TENDERLOIN!
  • PASTA -- WE LOVEEE PASTA! I MAKE VARIATIONS OF IT ALL THE TIME. THIS IS ANOTHER DINNER THAT I CAN MONITOR MY CARBS ON. I MAY MAKE SPAGHETTI FOR PAT, BUT ILL BOIL OR STEAM VEGGIES FOR MYSELF, AND MIX ABOUT 3/4 VEGGIES WITH 1/4 PASTA, TOP IT WITH SAUCE AND VIOLA! I GET A LOW CARB PASTA MEAL AND PAT GETS ALL THE CARBS HE ENJOYS!
  • SANDWICHES -- WE ALL HAVE THOSE LAZY NIGHTS! PAT AND I ARE HUGE SANDWICH PEOPLE, SO WE ALWAYS HAVE THE SANDWICH NECESSITIES! 

 

-- D R I N K S -- 

-- DAY DRINKS - I DRINK TONS OF WATER THROUGHOUT THE DAY! I’D SAY PROBABLY 5-7 GLASSES OR MORE A DAY! I ALSO LOVE LA CROIX SPARKLING WATER (THE TARGET BRAND HERE IS REALLY GOOD TOO!).

-- NIGHT DRINKS - I LOVE MILK, SO BEFORE BED 1-2 NIGHTS A WEEK I DRINK A GLASS OF 2% MILK. I ALSO LOVE HOT TEA! BELOW ARE A FEW OF MY FAVS! 

-- ADULT DRINKS - SO TO ANSWER THE QUESTION, YES I DRINK! SOMETIMES PROBABLY TOO MUCH.. I WOULDN’T SAY I’M PICKY REGARDING DRINKS, BUT I DO HAVE MY FAVORITES! 

  • CHAMPAGNE -- BRING ON THE BUBBLES! 
  • WHITE WINE -- LOVE A FRUITY SAUVIGNON BLANC 
  • MARGARITA -- 1 TEQUILA, 2 TEQUILA, 3 TEQUILA, MORE! GIVE ME ALL THE YUMMY MARGS... WITHOUT SALT!  
  • VODKA + SODA + 2 LIMES -- THIS IS AN EASY GO-TO WHEN I’M OUT. I ALSO TEND TO ORDER IT WITH FLAVORED VODKA FOR A LITTLE MORE TASTE!

AND THERE YOU HAVE IT! IF YOU CAN'T TELL, I LOVE FOOD! PAT MAKES FUN OF ME ALL THE TIME FOR HOW PARTICULAR I AM WITH MY FOOD. I’M NOT PICKY BUT I LIKE THINGS THE WAY I LIKE THEM (I.E. - CONDIMENTS, PAIRINGS, FAST FOOD ORDERS...) I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT CANDY, I SNACK OFTEN, I EAT FAST FOOD, & I LOVE A GOOD COCKTAIL! SO, CLEARLY THIS IS A JUDGEMENT FREE ZONE!!

I EAT WHAT I WANT, BUT I WATCH WHAT I EAT. I ALSO STAY ACTIVE, WORKING OUT ABOUT 4-5 TIMES A WEEK, AND THIS IS WHAT WORKS FOR ME. LIFE IS ALL ABOUT BALANCE RIGHT?!
